Frequently Asked Questions

  • What services do you offer?
We offer a range of services including consultations, residential and commercial designs, CAD design, Color designs and 3D designs to bring your vision to life. We also assist with contractor referrals in order to connect you with a reliable installer. Project management services are also available locally, upon request, for an hourly fee.
  • What does the landscape design process look like from start to finish?
The process typically begins with an initial consultation, where we discuss your goals, budget, style preferences, and functional needs. Next, we create a customized design plan, including plant selections, hardscape elements, and layout recommendations. After revisions, we finalize the design, and if desired, offer project management services to coordinate installation. From concept to completion, we’ll keep you informed and engaged every step of the way.
  • How long does the landscape design process take?
The timeline depends on the scope of the project, but generally, we can provide a Design Vision Board within two to four weeks. Full design and installation may take several months, depending on project size and seasonality. We work efficiently to minimize disruption while delivering quality results.
  • What is the process for revisions?
Each design package comes with two complimentary sets of revisions, including one during the draft phase and one final revision at presentation. In the occasion that more revisions are desired, additional revisions are $150 per request.
  • What does project management entail as an additional service?
Our project management service includes overseeing every aspect of the design’s installation to ensure your plan is implemented exactly as envisioned. This includes coordinating with contractors, sourcing plants and materials, scheduling installations, and managing the project timeline and budget. By handling these logistics, we help make the process seamless, so you can focus on enjoying your space rather than the details of execution.
  • What is your fee structure?
Our fee structure includes a $100 consultation fee, refundable if you choose our design services. Design fees are set rates for front yard, backyard, and full property. For larger properties, we determine the fee after a consultation.
  • What payment options do you offer?
To make your landscape design experience as convenient as possible, we offer flexible payment options, including a phased payment structure that aligns with project milestones. Our goal is to make the process accessible and straightforward, allowing you to move forward confidently.
  • How do you approach maintenance planning for the design?
We design with long-term care in mind, choosing plants and materials that fit your desired maintenance level. For those interested, we provide a maintenance plan with guidance on pruning, seasonal care, and irrigation tips. This ensures that your landscape remains healthy and vibrant with the appropriate level of upkeep over time.
  • Do you provide maintenance services after the project completion?
While we do not offer ongoing maintenance, we provide guidance on the care and upkeep of your new landscape. We can also recommend professional maintenance services upon request.
  • What is the difference between a landscape designer and a landscape architect?
A landscape designer focuses on the aesthetic, functional, and ecological aspects of outdoor spaces, choosing plants, hardscapes, and layout details to enhance a property’s beauty and usability. A landscape architect, on the other hand, is typically licensed and involved in larger-scale, structural projects requiring engineering and environmental assessments, like public parks or large commercial developments. Lindsay Mae Designs specializes in residential and small commercial properties, offering expert design and horticultural knowledge to elevate your outdoor space.
  • Can I see examples of your landscape designs?
To respect client privacy, we don't disclose previous client information or addresses. However, our digital portfolio showcases our work and is available here.
  • How will you help me stay within my budget?
We leverage our knowledge of material and installation costs to advise on prioritizing phases and options to meet your financial considerations.
  • What makes your design services unique?
Our design approach is highly personalized, combining aesthetics, functionality, and sustainability. With options for different plant palettes and materials on our Design Vision Boards, we create outdoor spaces tailored to each client’s needs, bringing long-lasting beauty and value to their property.
  • Why is it beneficial to have a full landscape plan?
A full landscape plan offers a cohesive vision for your outdoor space, ensuring that all elements complement one another and are aligned with your goals, style, and the natural surroundings. This plan acts as a blueprint, providing guidance for each phase of installation. With a full plan, you avoid piecemeal updates that might lead to costly redesigns or mismatched elements over time, creating a harmonious landscape that’s efficient, beautiful, and practical.
  • How would you suggest phasing construction if you’re not installing everything at once?
Phasing a landscape installation strategically helps minimize disruptions and avoid costly damage. Here’s how we recommend approaching it: Access and Area Considerations: Start by prioritizing projects that require heavy equipment, such as grading or hardscaping. Begin with areas that will impact access, such as the backyard if large equipment needs to move through the side yard or front yard. This reduces the chance of damaging newly installed elements later. Once all heavy-equipment work is done, you can shift focus to other areas without worrying about future access challenges. Seasonal Phasing: Different seasons influence plant availability, soil conditions, and installation ease. Spring and fall are ideal for planting due to moderate temperatures and moisture, but avoid starting installations when the ground is frozen or too wet. For hardscaping, warm, dry seasons are preferable to ensure stability and durability in the installation process. Contractor Scheduling: Specialized contractors, like pool installers, often book out one to two years in advance, so it’s wise to start planning these elements early. Once major hardscape elements are in place, you have flexibility for other projects—like lighting, which can be installed at any point after plants and pathways are established. Knowing lead times for different trades helps you organize the process smoothly and avoids bottlenecks. A thoughtful phasing approach ensures each stage builds seamlessly on the last while protecting your investment and maintaining flexibility in the timeline. We’re here to help you coordinate every step for the best results!
  • Can you save money by investing in a landscape design plan?
A well-thought-out design plan can save significant costs by minimizing waste, avoiding unnecessary rework, and allowing for efficient use of materials and labor. Without a plan, unexpected changes often arise, leading to higher costs for corrections, extra materials, or last-minute design adjustments. A design plan can save you up to 20-30% on the overall budget by ensuring clarity from the start and reducing costly surprises.
  • How does landscape design improve curb appeal?
A well-designed landscape creates a welcoming first impression, making your property stand out. With carefully selected plants, textures, and focal points, your home’s exterior will look inviting, which not only adds beauty but can also give potential buyers an immediate positive impression.
  • How does professional landscape design add value to my property?
Professional landscape design can increase a property’s value by 10-15%, as it enhances curb appeal, functionality, and aesthetic cohesion. Thoughtfully designed landscapes make homes more attractive to potential buyers, offer outdoor spaces for relaxation and entertainment, and contribute to long-term property value.
  • How can landscape design make my outdoor space more functional?
Landscape design isn’t just about aesthetics—it’s about maximizing usable space. Thoughtful planning allows you to create outdoor areas for relaxation, entertaining, play, and even gardening, making every part of your property valuable and enjoyable.
  • Do you offer sustainable or low-maintenance design options?
Absolutely! We specialize in sustainable design options that consider water efficiency, native plants, and minimal maintenance requirements. We select plants suited to your local climate and soil, reducing the need for excessive watering and fertilizers. We can also incorporate rain gardens, drought-tolerant plants, and eco-friendly materials that require less upkeep while still delivering a vibrant, beautiful landscape.
  • What if I only want to redesign part of my yard?
We offer design packages for front yard, backyard, or full-property design. This allows you to choose specific areas to focus on while working within your budget and creating a cohesive look across your property.
  • Can you work with small spaces?
Absolutely. We specialize in maximizing the potential of small spaces by using innovative and creative design techniques. No matter the size of your outdoor area, we can craft a beautiful and practical design that suits your urban environment.
